The timeline page

The modernist design of the timeline page
  • It's sleek and minimal design is inspired by the Bauhaus movement, creating a modern yet suitably anachronistic look.

  • The timeline is separated by Year, and within each year are a set of Events.

  • Click on an event to expand it (see below)

  • Each event can have an accompanying image, with an image description

  • Each year can have a whole photo gallery. Note: ( As it stands, the photo gallery will only show the first four pictures of the gallery. To see the whole gallery, all you do is click it and it will take you to the Years page)

  • It shows how long the jump is between each year.

  • The length of the scrolling distance between each years will scale in height depending on how long the time jump is.

Navigation tools

Time Climber offers some nifty tools to navigate your timeline.

  • Period — By choosing century, decade or even quinquennial (5-year spans) you can quickly jump to the point of time you're looking for.

  • New > Old — Change between ascending or descending order. This always changes the order of the years, but will only change the order of your events if they're given a specific date.

  • Sub-timelines — These are basically like tags, helping you keep track of certain topics in the timeline.

  • The Any/All switch lets you choose how to filter events.

  • All: Shows only events that match all selected topics.

  • Example: Only winners from Switzerland.

  • Any: Shows events that match any of the selected topics.

  • Example: All winners and all Swiss entries.

The year page

By clicking any of the years in your timeline, you'll end up on a Years page. This is meant as a magnified view of the year, with all events showing at once.

  • This is where viewers can see the entire year gallery.

  • With the Year navigation to your left and the up and down-buttons next to the year's title, it's easy to flick through the years.

Timeline settings

  • Change the name and description of your timeline.

  • Private will make your timeline inaccessible to others.

  • If your timeline instead is public, the Topics will determine where it'll show up in the Browse page.

  • Give other people editing or admin access. If your page is private, you can also give people exclusive viewing access.

Add/Edit

  • Add years to your timeline.

  • By clicking the "BCE"-checkbox or simply put in a negative number, the year will be shown as before common era (aka bc or before Christ).

  • If you enter a year already existing in your timeline, it'll simply take you to that Years edit page where you can continue editing where you left off.

The years edit page

  • Add and edit events.

  • Give your events photos, descriptions, links.

  • Sort your events manually or give them a specific date. Upon giving a date, your event will be sorted automatically in chronological order.

  • Add and edit sub-timelines, that you can tag each event with. The sub-timelines are a way to categories your events.

  • Add a media gallery to your year. Note: (the gallery needs at least four photos)

Collaboration

  • Look for the +join button (pictured above) to join someone else's timeline as a contributor. That will allow you to help edit the timeline.

Known issues

  • Not yet compatible for hand-held devices such as smartphones or tablets.
